About Us

Michael Haykin

Editorial Director
Michael A.G. Haykin is currently the Principal of The Toronto Baptist Seminary, Toronto, Ontario, where he also teaches Church History, Historical Theology and Spirituality. He is also Visiting Professor of Church History at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky, and a Senior Fellow of The Jonathan Edwards Centre for Reformed Spirituality, which operates under the auspices of The Toronto Baptist Seminary in Toronto.

He regularly lectures in church history at the Séminaire Baptiste Évangélique du Québec, Montréal, Québec; Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary, Grand Rapids, Michigan; and Knox Theological Seminary, Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Between 1999 and 2003 he served as the Editorial Director of Joshua Press, Dundas, Ontario. Prior to that he was the Professor of Church History at Heritage Baptist College and Theological Seminary, Cambridge, Ontario (1993-2002) and Professor of Church History at Central Baptist Seminary, Toronto, Canada (1982-1993).

Dr. Haykin has a B.A. in Philosophy from the University of Toronto (1974), a Master of Religion from Wycliffe College, the University of Toronto (1977), and a Th.D. in Church History from the University of Toronto and Wycliffe College (1982). He is the author of a number of books, including The Spirit of God: The Exegesis of 1 and 2 Corinthians in the Pneumatomachian Controversy of the Fourth Century (E. J. Brill, 1994); One heart and one soul: John Sutcliff of Olney, his friends, and his times (Evangelical Press, 1994); Kiffin, Knollys and Keach: Rediscovering Our English Baptist Heritage (Reformation Today Trust, 1996); “To honour God”: The spirituality of Oliver Cromwell (Joshua Press, 1999); The revived Puritan: The spirituality of George Whitefield (Joshua Press, 2000); and The Armies of the Lamb: The spirituality of Andrew Fuller (Joshua Press, 2001).

Dr. Haykin was born in 1953 of Irish and Kurdish parents and raised in England. He emigrated with his family to Canada in 1965. He was converted to Christ in February, 1974, through the witness of Alison Lowe, the woman who became his wife in 1976, and the ministry of Stanley Avenue Baptist Church, Hamilton, Ontario. He and his wife, and their two children, Victoria and Nigel, live in Dundas, Ontario. They attend Trinity Baptist Church, Burlington, Ontario, where he and his wife are members, and where he serves as an elder.

Janice Van Eck, R.G.D.

Janice Van Eck is a freelance graphic designer specializing largely in magazine and book design for various Canadian and U.K. publishers. She did her studies at George Brown College and the University of Toronto, fine arts department. She received her diploma in graphic design from George Brown College, Toronto, in 1995. She also attended Toronto Baptist Seminary and Bible College and completed a one-year diploma (1989).

Ms. Van Eck was the associate art director at AZURE, an international design and architecture magazine, from 1997 to 2003. Since then she has worked on magazines, book projects, corporate materials, and other design projects. In February 1999 she helped to found Joshua Press with Dr. Michael Haykin and a private investor.

Janice looks after most of the design and production of new Joshua Press titles as well as other aspects of the business. Janice currently lives and works in Guelph, Ontario.
